US Open Singles Preview: Williams, Kyrgios, Tiafoe & Nishioka Headline for DC

The 2019 US Open singles draws are out and the Kastles biggest stars have come out to play!

Kastles superstar Venus Williams will lead off for DC in women’s singles. The seven-time Grand Slam and two-time US Open champ faces Saisai Zheng of China in the first round. Positioned in the bottom half of the draw, Williams could face #5 seedElina Svitolina of Ukraine in the second round.

On the men’s side, reigning Citi Open champ and #28 seed Nick Kyrgios faces WTT star Steve Johnson in the first round. Placed in the bottom half of the draw, the Aussie superstar is on a collision course with #8 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, with whom he partnered in men’s doubles in DC and beat in a thrilling third-set tiebreak, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(7), in the semifinals in singles. The pair could meet in the third round in New York.

Also in the bottom half of the draw, Frances Tiafoe looks to shine in the Big Apple. The DC phenom and current world #52 will play Croatian giant and ace machine Ivo Karlovic in his opening match of the tournament. The two have never met before. If Tiafoe prevails, he could face #6 seed and three-time Masters 1000 champ Alexander Zverev in the next round. Zverev leads their career head-to-head 3-1.

And in the top half of the draw, Yoshi Nishioka caps off the Kastles singles roster. The Japanese rising star faces AmericanMarcos Giron in the first round with American Taylor Fritz or Freedoms star Feliciano Lopez as a potential second round opponent.
